Executive Health and Wellness, Fall 2004
Influenced by ancient Eastern practices, The Raj offers curative treatments that leave visitors with a truly transformative spa experience. Its remote location and expansive grounds in the southeastern plains of Iowa enhance the otherworldly quality of the spa. Occupying 100 acres of fields and forests, and accepting only 18 guests at a time, the privacy and tranquility of The Raj are ideal for the spa’s healing rituals.
All treatments at The Raj are centered on the world’s oldest system of medicine, Ayurveda. The word means “knowledge of life,” and its medical applications reflect this meaning. Developed in India 6,000 years ago, Ayurveda is a “natural approach to creating balance and strengthening the body’s healing abilities.”
The Raj employs this preventive-oriented health system in its purification treatments, which are designed to remove toxins caused by stress, fatigue, and external impurities. These techniques are aimed at re-centering imbalances within the body in order to rejuvenate its internal processes and increase natural energy levels and mental clarity. Because The Raj is the only center outside of India specifically designed to offer these traditional Ayurveda treatments, the resort is able to provide its visitors with a unique spa experience.
