NOVEMBER 2025 Webinar – Unanswered Q&A

Below are additional questions from guests during the webinar that we did not have time to address live.

How far in advance should I book Panchakarma, and can I do just 3 days?

Answer: We recommend booking several weeks in advance, depending on the season. Panchakarma is traditionally a 7 to 14-day program. However, we also offer 5-day panchakarma programs as well. In some cases we allow 3 days. Full Panchakarma requires adequate preparation starting one week before arriving. So, it is good to book at least 7 to 10-days in advance.

I got sick after 5 days — was my detox too fast?

Answer: Not necessarily. Symptoms during Panchakarma can reflect the body releasing stored toxins or adjusting to deep rest. The body responds differently at different times. This doesn’t mean the program is too strong or too fast for you. It may mean that you need to be more vigilant with the pre-arrival program that one does before beginning Panchakarma. We encourage you to speak with our team before returning so we can tailor the home preparation program to be something that you can easily follow.

Thoughts on leaky gut and Ayurveda?

Answer: Ayurveda addresses leaky gut by strengthening agni (digestive fire), reducing inflammation, and restoring gut integrity through proper meal timing, cooked foods, spices, stress reduction, and nervous system balance. Many modern “leaky gut” solutions align closely with classical Ayurvedic principles.

How do I apply Ayurveda with Western food and a busy schedule?

Answer: Focus on principles, not perfection: regular meal times, warm and freshly prepared foods, avoiding overeating, minimizing cold/raw foods, and eating your largest meal mid-day. Small shifts create meaningful digestive improvement.

How do I get Ayurvedic benefits while on GLP-1 medications?

Answer: Prioritize nutrient-dense foods, adequate protein, digestive spices (ginger, turmeric, vata churna), mindful eating, and regular meal timing. Since these medications do interfere with optimal digestion and absorption, we also recommend warm, cooked food that is more easily digested. Appetite and digestion are altered by these medications so easily digested food is important, as is nutrient dense food. Avoid eating ‘empty calories’ and make sure you consistently eat nutritious and easily digested food (such as cooked food).

Ayurvedic suggestions for gallbladder symptoms?

Answer: These symptoms often indicate impaired bile flow and excess Pitta. Ayurveda recommends gentle fats, warm cooked foods, bitter vegetables (i.e. arugula, dandelion greens, kale, radicchio, mustard greens, and bitter melon are examples of bitter vegetables), digestive spices, stress reduction, and avoiding fried or heavy meals. Individual assessment is important.

It is difficult to address specific disorders without a consultation with our Ayurveda experts. This is because similar symptoms can have different root causes. Ayurveda is very individual in its recommendations.

Does Ayurveda approve of snacking?

Answer: Generally, Ayurveda recommends allowing digestion to complete between meals. However, small, appropriate snacks may be used if digestion is weak or blood sugar stability is an issue — ideally warm, simple, and easy to digest. In some cases when digestion is very strong, we can get hungry not long after eating a meal. In this case, when you are truly hungry, eating a snack is not a problem. But sometimes, we mistake thirst for hunger. So, try having a glass of water or a cup of tea, and then see if you are still hungry. Being hungry usually means your meal has been digested and you can now eat again.

How important is routine for children?

Answer: Children have more adaptable digestion, but routine still supports long-term health. Regular meals, warm foods, and avoiding constant grazing help establish strong digestion early in life. But kids are growing and sometimes need some extra food.

What are examples of bitter vegetables?

Answer: Arugula, dandelion greens, kale, radicchio, mustard greens, and bitter melon are excellent choices.

Are bitter supplements helpful?

Answer: Ayurvedic bitters are traditionally taken as teas or powders rather than tablets—but they don’t take the place of including all 6 tastes (including bitter taste) in our diet. To have all 6 tastes in our meal allows that meal to be fully satisfying. It is also the case that herbal formulas should be individualized rather than used generically.

How do I calm anxiety so digestion improves?

Answer: Anxiety and digestion are deeply connected. Ayurveda focuses on calming the nervous system through meditation (TM), routine, warm foods, oil massage, breathing practices, and adequate rest. As the nervous system settles, digestion often improves naturally. When it comes to meditation, Transcendental Meditation (TM) has the widest range of benefits, and the strongest research in regard to calming anxiety. It is easy to practice since it utilizes the natural tendency of the mind to settle to its own abiding state of inner silence.
