Ayurvedic Treatment for Diabetes

Diabetes affects how the body processes glucose, uses energy, and maintains stable blood sugar. Ayurveda looks at diabetes as a metabolic imbalance that can be influenced by weak digestion, sluggish metabolism, excess heaviness in the body, known in Ayurveda as Kapha, and ama, the sticky residue of incomplete digestion.

The Raj’s approach to diabetes focuses on supporting steadier blood sugar patterns by strengthening digestion and helping reduce the metabolic heaviness that can interfere with healthy energy regulation. Your program may emphasize balancing meals, daily routines that support more stable energy, therapies that help clear accumulated ama, and guidance to support digestion, elimination, and metabolic strength.

In this context, Panchakarma is used to support a lighter, clearer metabolic state. By helping reduce ama and the heaviness associated with Kapha imbalance, the program supports healthier digestion, steadier energy after meals, and a more balanced foundation for glucose metabolism.

Diabetes Success Stories & Case Studies

From Treating Diabetes to Becoming the Patient

After nearly twenty years in medical practice, Dr. Michael Borger was diagnosed with Type II diabetes and extremely high blood sugar after years of increasing weight.

“As a physician, I have treated hundreds of patients with diabetes. But when I became the patient, I found out that, like everyone else, I reacted emotionally. I was scared.”

Dr. Borger knew from experience that diet, medicine, and exercise could only help so much. “For me, it was not enough to significantly lower my blood sugar.” He booked a three-day evaluation and treatment program at The Raj.

Seven months later, he reported losing 60 pounds, no longer taking the Glucophage prescribed at diagnosis, and having normal laboratory studies, including short- and long-term measures of blood sugar.

“I can’t remember the last time I looked or felt so good. The help that I received at The Raj made it possible for me to regain my health. For this I will always be grateful.”

Fasting Blood Sugar Dropped 93 Points During a 21-Day Program

A 55-year-old man came to The Raj for a 21-day Maharishi Ayurveda program for Type II diabetes. At admission, he was taking medication to manage the condition, but his blood sugar remained poorly controlled.

During the month before his stay, his daily fasting blood sugar averaged 212. During the 21-day program, his diabetes medication was tapered to approximately half of his original dose.

Despite the reduction in medication, his fasting blood sugar averaged 118.7 over the final 12 days of treatment, a 93-point decrease from admission. His weight also decreased from 147 to 144 pounds.

Five months after the program, his hemoglobin A1C, a measure of longer-term blood sugar control, was 7.4, compared with 8.4 just before admission. His medication remained at half of his pre-admission dose.
